Pet Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used to treat a variety of medical conditions for over 3000 years, and the American Veterinary Medical Association accepted it as a form medical treatment in 1998. Then-In recent years, the veterinary rehab field has expanded it’s training options to include evidence based acupuncture and trigger point therapy along with the traditional Chinese methods. Acupuncture is thought to work through manipulation of fascia (or connective tissue) and direct stimulation of nerves which signal cells to release a cascade of biochemical substances that help the body’s natural defenses against pain and inflammation.
Acupuncture has been used to treat a variety of medical conditions for over 3000 years, and the American Veterinary Medical Association accepted it as a form medical treatment in 1998. TCM states that acupuncture works by adjusting the flow of vital energy, or Qi (pronounced “chee”), along specific pathways, or meridians, in the body. By inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body, this energy can be improved or altered, restoring balance and resolving the disease. In Western terms, acupuncture exerts its effects by stimulating the nervous and endocrine systems to release endorphins and other hormones that are part of the body’s natural defense against pain and inflammation.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave
Shock waves are high intensity sound waves that produce a direct mechanical force on the tissues causing the cells within to “squish” and subsequently release a cascade of beneficial biochemical substances that accelerate the body’s own healing process. Shockwave is considered a regenerate treatment option. Conditions that benefit most from this type of therapy include: Tendon and ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, low back pain and fractures.
Joint Injections
Joint injections are very common practice in human medicine. In veterinary medicine, horses have been benefiting from this direct and useful treatment for many years. Now we are able to provide safe and effective injection options for our companion animals. This procedure requires intravenous sedation and a sterile environment but the patients are usually able to go home in a few hours. It is possible for some types of injections to provide relief from osteoarthritis pain for up to one year. Certain injections can also be used as a conservative option for chronic cruciate disease.
